Songcatchers has been bringing music into the
lives of hundreds of children and families in the New Rochelle
area and beyond for 25+ years. Many claim that their lives have
been changed by participation in its various activities.
For the
past 8 years Songcatchers has been operating out of an old
school building of the poorest parish in New Rochelle, using
three rooms, all of which are now in need of repair. The safety
of the children we serve and the quality of the education we
give them require the improvements specified in our enclosed
budget.
Our programs here are designed to meet the needs of
low-income families from this neighborhood in the south/west end
of New Rochelle. Students are charged $5.00 when able to pay
(less than materials costs alone); therefore, we cannot count on
student tuition to completely finance our needs— neither those
of the physical plant, nor those necessitated by the increasing
ability of the children under instruction.
Our donor history is
sound and steady, but more funds are needed at this time. This
request is based on the need to expand both the reach and depth
of the services provided by Songcatchers to its community.
